Raising Awareness on Refugee Issues
Advocating for Rights
At Raising Hope Centre, advocacy isn’t just a program—it’s a voice. A voice for refugees who have been displaced, unheard, and marginalized. A voice that amplifies their struggles, rights, and humanity. Through our refugee advocacy work, we are building bridges between communities, shaping policy, and ensuring no refugee is left behind.
Why Advocacy Matters
Every refugee has a story. Many have fled conflict, persecution, or economic collapse. When they arrive in urban areas like Kitengela, they’re seeking safety, opportunity, and dignity. But what they often find are new challenges:
- Barriers to work
- Limited access to education and healthcare
- Discrimination and invisibility in policy-making
Our role is to challenge these systems and ensure that refugee rights are not only recognized but respected.
Educating Refugees About Their Rights
One of the biggest obstacles for refugees is lack of access to accurate information. Many do not know their legal rights under the Refugee Act of 2021 or how to navigate the systems meant to support them.
Through our advocacy forums and workshops, we:
- Translate legal language into understandable guidance
- Distribute simplified booklets on refugee rights
- Regularly hold community meetings to discuss policies and services
- Invite experts from legal and humanitarian sectors to speak directly to refugee communities
🎯 In 2023, over 75 refugees participated in these sessions, leaving more informed, empowered, and engaged.
Community Forums for Policy Awareness
Our community engagement model places refugees at the center of conversations about their future. We host forums where refugees:
- Share lived experiences with local authorities
- Participate in dialogues with policymakers
- Identify gaps in service delivery
- Strengthen community solidarity through shared advocacy goals
These spaces turn frustration into action and build community-led solutions.
Partnership for Greater Impact
Raising Hope Centre works closely with organizations like Pamoja Trust, Refugee Integration Network Kenya (RINK), and others to influence local and national policies. These partnerships allow us to:
- Push for refugee inclusion in social programs
- Support the enforcement of the Refugee Act
- Train refugee leaders to become advocacy champions
By uniting with allies, we amplify our message and increase pressure for systemic change.
Real Change Starts with Awareness
Advocacy isn’t just about legal reform—it’s about changing perceptions. Through social media campaigns, school outreach, and public storytelling, we work to humanize refugees and promote empathy within host communities.
Our journalism and media training programs are also equipping refugees to tell their own stories—powerfully, truthfully, and without filters.
